We have also had the privilege of growing up visiting Grandparents and Great Grandparents often. Their stories, music, and treasured items will always have a special meaning to us. On the long car trips, Emily developed a love for 1940s comedic radio dramas.  At one time Emily amassed over 60 episodes, of mostly Fibber McGee & Molly, a large collection for a 12-year-old on a limited allowance.

 

After we got married, we both worked in education and with families.  After some stressful experiences, it became harder for Emily to bounce back, and she gradually had to cut back on her work and home activities.  By 2013, it became apparent that she was spending more time recovering from work than working.  We talked to a friend who was ready to downsize and have an outlet for his estate/garage sale habit and That Great Shop was born.  We love holding a little bit of history in our hands, learning about it, then passing it on to someone who will also appreciate and care for it.

 

Emily has severe reactions to fragrances, chemicals, mold, household cleaners, laundry products, and common allergens.  If you don't see new items posted for a while, keep checking in, we are just recovering and will get new items up soon.  Though some of the items will have a smell from age, you can be assured that anything we sell won't have any added smoke or fragrant smells.  

 

Emily's health challenges have made us acutely aware of the damage pollution has on our environment and on people's health.  The amount of man-made chemical exposures has risen dramatically since WWII, leading to an increase in a variety of illnesses including Chemical Sensitivity.  For this reason, we do our best to recycle and reuse as much as possible.  You may receive a package with several types of packaging materials, but we use what we have to make sure our items ship safely and recycle any scraps.  We love that we are able to find new homes where people can enjoy the items we sell  rather than letting them be destroyed or filling a landfill.

 

We work together to provide you with accurate information on all the products we sell, but there is always more to learn.  We are thankful to all the friends and resources along the way.
